FDS was proudly appointed by Kier PLC to undertake the hard and soft strip of the ground floor ward in the ITU facility of Croydon University Hospital. The works involved the full strip out of all ceilings, services, partitions, block walls and the majority of the screed.

With live Covid-19 wards upstairs and heavy, and occasionally urgent traffic outside the works had to be executed in the most sensitive manner. FDS utilised the most advanced techniques possible to dramatically reduce noise and dust nuisance, despite the volume of demolition being significant compared to the space allowed. Some 200 tons of hardcore was removed whilst navigating such site constraints.

Another challenge was in the sensitive and singular nature of the services strip out. Singular runs of pipe could be removed at a time to allow looping at the demise boundary and strategically agreed interrupted usage for the wards upstairs in partnership with the NHS.

FDS was given the “very hard to come by” All Green Health, Safety & Environment audit by the KIER. This is an example of how FDS’s Internal operating SHEQ standards are aligned with the highest in the industry.
