FDS was appointed as principal contractor on a major redevelopment in Hackney. The scheme consisted of the demolition of two adjoining warehouses and subsequent groundworks on the River Lea. With brick facades, steel columns and trusses, and an asbestos cement roof, completion of the works demanded a variety of modern demolition techniques.

All asbestos was removed from within the building by hand with the use of a scissor lift and consigned to a licensed waste facility, before commencing demolition.

Phase 2 of the works included drilling out a 3m ground slab, followed by a reduced level dig and consignment of contaminated earth. The hardcore from the demolition was crushed on site to 6F2 standard and re-laid as a piling mat. FDS were then asked to undertake attendance and waste management during the piling contract. All works were tested and passed engineers requirements comfortably, were completed on time and within tight budget parameters required by our client.

‘First Demolition worked closely with us to reduce the cost and programme impacts of unforeseen ground conditions’
